No-exam life insurance

Information about qualifying for accelerated underwriting, its operational mechanics, and what occurs in situations where it's not available.

Many insurers now employ expedited underwriting: within specified age and coverage ranges, they render decisions using your application, pharmaceutical records, motor vehicle data, and comparable information rather than requiring a physical exam. Determinations can be made within hours in many cases. Each quote indicates whether the carrier expects an exam, might request one, or will waive it for that particular product.

What it changes

Waiving the exam doesn't bypass underwriting entirely. Your responses undergo verification, and a policy issued based on inaccurate information can be challenged within the initial 24 months. When the carrier's records suggest concerns, they may still require testing; you decide whether to move forward at that stage.

Who tends to qualify

Usually, applicants younger than approximately 60 applying for coverage below the carrier's accelerated limits with no substantial medical history and no tobacco consumption in the previous 12+ months. Should you have recent clinical exam results including lab work, certain carriers accept these instead of ordering a new exam.

If required, the exam typically consists of a brief 20- to 30-minute appointment conducted by a licensed examiner at your preferred location in the Paramount region, with no charge to you. Favorable results often result in improved rate classifications for healthy applicants, making exams advantageous rather than burdensome.
